The neighbors are quiet...
"Congratulations, you are now officially our new tenants!" Woohoo! That one sentence confirmed all my beliefs (that we would find the perfect place) and alleviated all Boyd's fears (that we wouldn't get it settled soon enough).
Last weekend we officially signed the lease for a beautiful apartment at 226 Harvie Ave in Toronto. We get the top two floors of a beautiful old home that's recently been renovated. The place is really a one-bedroom with a reading nook and an office - how perfect is that?
I am a firm believer in asking for what you want and so we went to Toronto with this tentative wish list for our home (in no particular order):
P.S. Besides looking for a house, we also got the chance to visit York University, where Boyd will be teaching. It's a thoroughly un-pretty campus, but the library is quite stunning with terraces and plants inside:

- Lots of windows
- 2 bedrooms
- Open concept kitchen
- Gas stove
- Bath tub
- Place for kitties to go outside
- Near nice coffee shop
- Near subway station
- Friendly neighbors (who like cats)
- Vibrant area
- Accommodating landlord
- Parking spot
I am happy to report that the place we got covers almost every single one of our demands! We only missed gas stove (electric stoves seem to be the norm in Toronto rentals) and the open-concept kitchen. However, the kitchen does have a DISHWASHER!!!! and nice countertops, so I think that makes up for any minor deficiencies.
The neighborhood is nice - it's an old Italian neighborhood - and there are some promising coffee shops and restaurants. As the title of this blog (a direct quote from the property manager) suggests, behind our house is a cemetery - quiet indeed!
The landlady put up a website with some photos of the place, which gives good sense of our beautiful future home. We move in August 1st and we look forward to hosting many of you in our new place in months to come!
