Adventure in the rain!
Boyd and I took our first camping trip of the season last weekend. Unfortunately, it rained most of the time we were away. Fortunately, Sipapu (our tent) kept us warm and dry even though the thunderstorms raged all night long!
Check out my Vuvox (new cool web 2.0 tool) web slideshow with pictures from the trip. Use the scroll bar to see all the pictures.
We left Saturday morning driving south from the Twin Cities along the Mississippi River, through Red Wing, Winona and La Crescent. We passed through bluff country and along Lake Pepin, a wide spot in the Mississippi. We took lots of backroads and small county roads, taking in all the lovely rural sites (Preston, Rushford, Lanesboro, Hokah and Houston). The countryside was very beautiful with lots of rolling hills, churches with soaring steeples and bright red barns. It was all very picturesque. We even happened upon Burr Oak, Iowa where Laura Ingalls Wilder lived for a while growing up - very exciting!
We got in one good hike Saturday afternoon before the rain started....
Sunday morning we didn't want to try cooking breakfast in the rain so we took a chance at "Los Gables" a "Mexican Restaurant" which was definitely the place to be on a Sunday morning in Fountain, MN! Their happy hour special (which is available anytime) is "buy 9 margaritas, get the 10th free!" now THERE'S a DEAL!
Despite the rain we had a wonderful trip, enjoying time away from it all - and I look forwad to many more trips the summer, seeing Minnesota and enjoying the great outdoors.
